Kairav Engineer is an Executive Director at Astral Limited and one of India’s most active young conservation leaders, known for transforming on-ground wildlife protection through engineering-led solutions and long-term partnerships with forest departments across the country.
His work spans critical landscapes such as Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura, Kanha, and Kaziranga, where he has focused on strengthening habitats, restoring water systems, equipping anti-poaching units, and improving frontline infrastructure for forest guards. Through Astral Foundation, he has helped implement solar-powered waterholes, rapid-response patrol vehicles, drought-resilient installations, and scientific studies on species such as gharials, Eurasian otters, and Indian leopards.
Kairav’s conservation approach is rooted in practicality rather than optics—prioritising field logistics, operational efficiency, and the dignity of those working on the frontlines of wildlife protection. His belief is simple: conservation succeeds only when landscapes thrive and communities around them feel secure, valued, and involved.
Safari Crafters reflects this philosophy. Under his vision, the company curates meaningful safari journeys that respect ecosystems, support local conservation efforts, and introduce travellers to wilderness areas through a lens of responsibility and deep ecological understanding.

“At a tender age of just 3 years, Gaurav Ramnarayanan wielded a camera gifted by his father. As a child, he spent many of his weekends in a house their family-owned nearby one of the Tiger reserves in South India. Growing up in the lap of nature and being exposed to photography so early in his life, Gaurav’s keen interest in the natural world grew leaps and bounds.
With a keen eye for perfection, Gaurav has traveled extensively in India and around the world capturing the myriad wildlife, diverse cultures, and stunning landscapes. All these years spent in the wild photographing a plethora of species across different landscapes has led him to acquire a lot of skills and knowledge with not just the camera, but also with tracking Big Cats and understanding wildlife behaviour. As the Chief Operating Officer of Safari Crafters, he has successfully combined the years of experience from his travels and knowledge of photography to build the very foundation of the organization, thus paving the way for all his guests to be able to experience nothing, but the best.
He is a proud winner of 5 international photography awards presented by prestigious institutions, including the Natural History Museum in London, The Rutland Bird Fair in the United Kingdom, and The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., USA.”
